The first time i heard How It Ends i had to consider for a while even putting it on my ipod. Now, i basically collect all of their music! My friend's mom helped to make them famous and even produced some of their songs, so he told me about their concert that was coming up. Even on the tiniest of chances that the music is just... "meh", in concert you can truly see how incredible they are. The passion lights up the stage and you take home a beautiful piece of the magic you feel there. For me, the unique music has aged like a fine wine, and made me thirsty for more- so give it a chance. You won't regret it.

Rather than give a review that is "at the expense of other artists" I will just ask: Does any band rival DeVotchKa's creativity, complexity, or intelligence? Is there any band they do not pass in passion, elegance, or absolut beauty? Is there any music you would rather be inside of? No, no and no, Right? (I'll leave objectivity for the people that aren't totally obsessed with this band. FINALLY I can stop looking for perfection.)
  • This is how to do covers

Of course, DeVotchKa put out yet another great album in this EP. The best part is that they found a way to interpret covers in genuinely interesting ways, staying more true to their own sound than that of the originals, but still making cohesive tracks. The Last Beat of My Heart is truly beautiful, and Venus in Furs is just as spooky as a song about sadomasochism requires.

This band is awesome! They really throw a lot of elements into all of their wild compositions. This ep does not disappoint. "I Cried Like a Silly Boy" is an excellent representation of their talents. Their best album may be Una Volta, but this one's a close second. I can't wait to see them live sometime.
  • Every bit of your existence

The last beat of my heart is actually every bit of your existence. I feel like singing at the top of my lungs along with the singer. Its just like Mikel Jollet says..."Jeez! What can you say! This is Romance, this is Life, this is DeVotchKa. Lets Go !!!"

I just bought this EP 4 days ago and it's in high rotation since. Talk about generation spanning, my girlfriend's 2.5 year old loves the Sinatra cover; I love the Velvet Underground cover; and we both agree that the first track is our favorite. As a Boulder raised 30something, thank god that I am not the only one to remember the underappreciated genius of Ted Thacker.

If Astrude Gilberto and Roy Orbison had a love child that wrote and performed music, I would imagin that the it would sound like devotchka. Knaw Mean
