Reviews

  • Where is Larry Carlton?

From all the works he has done this is hands down the biggest dissapointment and hardly sounds like him. It is almost as if he owed the record company one more album on a contract and just put this out in a night. One of the commentors said "Amazing" so obviously it is to some people. For me it was amazingly boring, bland and a waste of my time. And by the way, it should be rated one star though out of respect for an artist I once thought walked on water, I gave it 2 stars.

Larry Carlton has contributed his signature guitar sound and style to countless pop, rock, and jazz recordings most notably Steely Dan. His recordings while always listenable always played to the smooth jazz audience leaving little room for spontaneity or edge. This record finally lets LC open up and play displaying a jazzier approach and edgier sound. He really sounds like he is having fun. While steeped in the blues the tunes all have their harmonic twists and turns making each composition unique and great vehicles for improvisation. Highly recommended.
