Best known for his magnificent scores in The Hunt for Red October and Conan the Barbarian, Basil Poledouris' work for Quigley Down Under is easily their equal. He captures the sense of both the American West and of the wilds of 19th century Australia, and the music is fun to just listen to, whether or not one has ever seen the film. Mr. Poledouris died far too young -- I would very much have enjoyed more of his potential output. This album is a keeper.

I love the rich, colorful sounds of this soundtrack. Basil Poledouris has a great way of bringing the movie's feelings into sound. This is one of my favorite movies and soundtracks.

This is a great soundtrack produced by a great artist. I didn't make the connection between this movie and Lonesome Dove, until I watched Lonesome Dove last week and heard a theme that sounded vaguely familiar. As Gus and Woodrow leave Lonesome Dove for Montana, the background music is reminiscent of the End Credits theme in Quigley Down. No big surprise here really, Basil Poledouris did both scores. All I can say is wow! I cannot wait until someone produces another western for Basil to score. As much as I love John Williams, James Horner and Ennio Morricone western themes, I am convinced that Basil Poledouris is the Master.
