I grew up listening to this album and watching “Victory at Sea” with my father. This will always be some of my favorite pieces of music.

I watched Victory at Sea when I was a young teenager. The series was exemplary and the music score was truly outstanding. I owned the original LP and played it over and over. Many years later I purchased the CD and have just recently added it to my ITunes. I am so moved by the history of WWII and by the music that I actually find myself standing and attempting to conduct an orchestra. Many times the music as it relates to the film history moves me to tears. Sometimes tears of sadness and ultimately tears of joy. Anybody who appreciates wonderful music should own Victory at Sea!

The most powerful musical narrative of WWII. I don't believe any other writer and orchestrator could have ever done this magnificent historical documentary. It has everything from the deepest heart renching sadness, to the crescendos of victory over evil. Everyone especially young people should be introduced to this masterpiece. Unfortunately there will never be another like it.

Back in the day there were three LP's of this material. This version is essentially the first volume and side one of the second. The first volume, I believe, was pretty much confined to the music. With the 2nd volume sound effects were added -- but on side 2. Volume 3 was heavy into sound effects. All of those pyrotechnics would be fun to hear on modern systems -- what with sub-woofers and all. Back in 1960 my GE Portable stereo could only give me an inkling of that noise. Anyhow, with all the emphasis on original jackets and retro versions of early stereo, hey Sony, let's have the rest !! PS: The recordings of Bennett & company were some of the best examples of original LIving Stereo -- technically clean and wonderful recordings.
