Carl Davis' beautiful, stirring opening theme to his score for "Napoleon" promises the listener a rewarding experience, and he doesn't disappoint. A triumphant trumpet fanfare opens the second track, movin into variations on "La Marseilles" which then takes a brief foray into a fiery Beethoven-like section before returning to the French anthem.
The score's opening theme returns in track 7 ("Victor of Toulon") after a mesmerizing - even smoldering - two and a half minute tone poem lead-in.
Great music!
