The quality, and imagery that this album provides is simply astounding. Wonderful piano playing, wonderful songwriting. Nothing is lacking in this beautiful compilation of songs. A must buy.

Absolutely beautifully written - lyrically and musically. Such truth and passion by a genuine artist made accessible by songs that gladly get stuck in your head. Genius that is like nothing heard on the radio now. "Weight of the World" is an obvious favorite, but also "Villainous Thing" is a must that warms and chills at the same time. This is music to be shared.
  • A raucous embrace of the darkness without and within.

The first listening will beg the question: "Why did I wait so long to get this?" From the depths to the heights, to spitting in the devil's eye--this album is beautifully crafted and every song rings true. "Palaces in purgatory" indeed!
  • New and Noteworthy? Hell's to the yeah!

So I finally figured out what Shayfer James means by "Noir Pop". I get the feeling I should listening to him in a smokey nightclub, surrounded by dapper men in 3 piece suits, fedoras, sipping whiskey out of cut glass tumblers. And the women - oh the women - dressed in monochrome, with little hats with the barest excuse for a veil, shading the glint of deviltry in their eyes. Well done Shayfer James. Counterfeit Arcade is Brilliant. Songs like "Weight of the World" and " For the Departed" spin pictures of a world that is just 'that' much off kilter. " Villainous Thing" leaves you wondering whether a it's complement or demonization - either way, you want to know her. Battle Cry - anthem. Major Anthem. I've woke up with the refrain storming through my brain for better than a week. Buy this, you will not regret it.

Put simply, Mr. James music, arrangments, voice and lyrics are like nothing I've ever heard, yet everything I've ever wanted to hear.
