Gumbo

I am a big MG fan, having listened to him for several years when he was a "local artist" when I lived in Vegas. I loved his voice and bluesy/R&B style and rooted for him on AGT. i own every album he's released and while I loved them, was always yearning for some original material rather than covers, even though in many cases, I liked his covers better than the originals. "Gumbo" while wonderfull in being acoustic, is still a bunch of covers, albeit sytlistically original covers. I really do love the CD but I'm still yearning for original music. I am sure he's fully capable of it!

A great mix of covers and originals! A little blues, pop, country, reggae a true mix of styles. it is perfect for the summer! The Tide is a very personal song for Michael and many others who have lived thru Mother nature's wrath. Momma's Eyes will bring you to tears for sure. The original Michelle has a haunting quality. Born on the Bayou, Is This Love, Crazy Love and wide River To Cross while covers have Michael's own touch. A great summer treat!

The less polished aspect of this album was a DEFINITE plus for me as well--Michael has such an intoxicating tone that all I need to make me happy are his LUCIOUS vocals!!! I really enjoyed the variety on this--GUMBO is a very apt title indeed, and all the offerings were quite tasty! I wish I could say I was surprised that Michael sounds so great in so many different genres--but it didn't surprise me at all, he truly is a versatile artist. And the "dessert" (the 3 bonus tracks) was a real treat--the icing on the cake!

Shows the variety of this talented artist, I still prefer more of his soul songs but you can never lose listening. To MG! My fav was his original song, "The Tide"

I have been waiting for this album, and I was not disappointed. Michael Grimm has a voice that can sing any genre,it's smooth, raspy,soul, blues and country- just love it !!!! The song - " The Tide " hits your heart; " Michelle " is so hauntly beautiful and " Momma's Eyes " you can feel the pain of a child being ripped from the arms of his mother- I love the fun and loving songs. Great job Michael.
