I have always enjoyed this haunting refrain, which was a hit for "The Stylistics" back in 1974. The version by Mick Hucknall and his band "Simply Red" is a smooth version, which is another one of my all time favourites. While some numbers demand a driving bass line over a funky backing, other melodies are better served by playing selectively and letting the tune stand on its own merits. I've tried to keep my version uncomplicated. Easier said than done! I reckon that my Overwater "Perception" unlined fretless active bass adds a smooth tone, together with some "mwah" behind this song. I had to record it live into a microphone in one take, while my neighbours were out at the Supermarket! I could have done it better in 3 or 4 takes, but hey, this is real. Enjoy ;o)
