“La Migra, Lets Run” is an abstract narrative, telling stories of immigration and assimilation, and drawing from my personal journey as an immigrant. The work explores humanity's near universal proclivity for racial prejudice, and how this results in anti-alien sentiment. As such, La Migra, follows the historical cycle of immigration, assimilation, and subsequent nativism (Its my country now and the rest of you aren't welcome). The anti-immigration and anti-immigrant laws of the 1900's, serve as a backdrop for the piece. These laws are often glossed over in our remembrance of history, and they provide interesting parallels to contemporary issues.
