“The pieces do not fit, ” a sullen girl cries to the sky
Little does she know there is a reason why.
She holds the pieces once whole, apart in her fragile, shaking hands.
Searching now, with tearful eyes, she begins to weep

I tried to put them back together.
They simply do not go.
I haven’t felt so broken
Never, I will not let go.

She picks up one piece and another.
Checking out the open scars
She lays them in front of the iron bars
“I put them here to pay my ransom”
Even though she knows they’re worthless.
He picks them up with so much care, tears fill her eyes again

He grabs her by the hands and sees the pain
The scars etched on the pieces cant be erased
The heart’s too fragile to take the pain
For one more day
Heartless, she must remain

The pieces will not ever fit
For they can never be the same
It’s going to be another shape when they’re all put back together.

colin kahi

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/no-heart-2/
