If New Age music was really good, it would sound like this.

I wish Geogaddi went more in the direction of this EP or if anything these should had just been on the album, since they were all recorded around the same time and reflect the premise of their Charles Manson/Beach Boys/cryptic message motif. Amo Bishop Roden, being one of Manson's cult followers and the title of this EP referring to the fanatic religion and retreat they were living at. This was the beginning of the dark territory BoC would tread and there was no going back. Though the four tracks on here sound so much more polished and define than most of the messy and chaotic ones on the full-length that followed. Kid For A Day, is quite possibly my all time favorite track. That simplistic sharp machine click acting as the song's metronome, the ambient vacuum waves, and finally the haunting synth melody that follows. Think about it now brings chills up my spine. Out of their entire catalog, including rare unreleased material, I have never heard anything as full, dynamic as this. I literally feel like a kid for a moment, which I believe BoC is consistently trying to do. The title track is another great full-sounding atmosphere with laughing children, spooky synths, whirling winds, and recorded breathes going in and out, and of course nothing completes this but a robotic voice trying to brainwash you to join their occult. The last piece is shimmering with a sense of optimism, which would had been a great piece to end Geogaddi. Regardless, I cherish this lil' EP and it still stands out as some of the best BoC has produced so far. If you're a fan, definitely add it to your collection and if you are new to them, this is definitely a high note to start with.

I'm not religious any more, but "In A Beautiful Place.." almost makes me wish I was. Maybe in my next life.

I listened to this album before I went to bed for about 5 years and it never got old to me. BOC always brings me back to what it was like being a kid. Something really special here in this atmosphere.

This record gave me much comfort in times of need. Nostalgic is often used to describe them in general, and is not an ill-placed adjective in describing this EP. I have played it over and over again and still remains an easily accessable favorite of mine. Sooooothing, beautiful.

... and still my favorite boards of canada release. "kid for today" is the epitome of boc -- a careful mixture of nostalgia, melancholy, and childlike melody. "zoetrope" mimics the movement of its namesake, and constructs a jilted melody that hints at the joy of finding a moving image within. perfect for sunny, rainy, cloudy days -- listen and let your memories meld with the moment.
