Mighty Mighty We Don't Need No Music We've Got Curtis Mayfield! Wow - what a great live R&B/Soul Classic. 1971 saw a nation in turmoil with racial tensions & the Vietnam War issues escalating to an explosion. Curtis puts it all into perspective... in a poetic, soulful, R&B (Real & Black) way. Listen Up & LEARN. 'Cause, Brother, The Times they are Repeating... & People, we Need To Get Ready! Becuase it's now Darker Than Blue. Two songs blow my mind here; Mighty, Mighty & We The People Are Darker Than Blue... Along with the Curtis Catolog of Hits makes this 1971 Live (2004) recording a timelss classic. Freddy/I mean; Curtis might be Dead. But his Voice Sings On.

I just wanna say if you have lived during the CURTIS MAYFIELD era you were truly blessed and there will NEVER be another . If you doubt yourself based on ignorance and racism and the color of your skin, well just put this album on and you will feel empowered no matter what your color is ......... when someone puts you down and tries to make you feel small it is because they feel small inside and out ,so keep moving on up and celebrate what you are as a person and just like Curtis said ..CONTINUE TO BE A WINNER because color has nothing to do with it because it is a distraction some use it to DISTRACT you , because they themselves are lost.

The reason superfly is tacked on is a mystery, it had not been conceived when Curtis played this set, so it doesn't belong. What does belong is one of the best recorded, best performed live albums I can think of, if the other reader says 'perhaps top 10' I'm going 'definitely top 5'. Why? Because of power, immediacy, timelessness, that sense of dynamics of a live show. Curtis being at the top of his game, first solo record out the gate, he has something to prove and the songs all represent his past milestones and new horizons.

Somebody needed to give this album the review it deserves ! First of all this album was a very important contibution to the era in which it was created ...Curtis really had his finger on the pulse of America and the state of affairs in racial relations and communicated this with grace and power. That being said this was a superbly recorded live album with a dynamite ensembel along with Mayfields slick guitar playing and soulful voice. As I said probably one of the top 25 albums of all time and maybe top 10 live albums. Gotta give bigups to itunes for bring this one out.
