  • Not who they used to be...

Don't let the name fool you, this is NOT the Bloc Party you fell in love with when you picked up Silent Alarm. Rather then sticking with their roots and blossoming into even greater music, they have ripped them up from the ground and planted them somewhere completely different. Gone are the days of clean beats, complimentary guitar tracks, and pure voice. They've all been shaped and twisted into a 'noise' I'm ashamed to even call Bloc Party anymore! I can admit that some songs do show hope for the band but not enough to convince me to buy another album. Thanks to mainstream music yet another great band has given in and lost the style that made them famous in the first place...

I'm Not A HUGE Bloc Party Fan , And I Do Agree Thev'e Changed A Little Bit, But This Album Defenitly Isn't Bad. "One Month Off" Is A Rockin' Song.

So, I'm a little disappointed with this album. I've been a huge fan since silent alarm, and this has to be my least favorite album. That being said there are some awesome tracks on here, Biko & Signs being my favorites. If you're a diehard Bloc Party fan give the album a couple of listens through start to finish and it'll definitely grow on you. To those who think this album is a serious departure for Bloc Party go back and give their earlier albums a listen, I'd argue that this album has a real Silent Alarm feel to it. A Weekend in The City is still my favorite, but I'm happy to see that Bloc Party is still willing to experiment with their sound rather than pumping out poppy track after poppy. Subscribe to Marchals and download the Marchals albums if you're looking for some new Bloc Party music. The 04-05 and 06-07 albums are definitely worth it.

The better version of "Intimacy" comes in the remix edition. I love Bloc Party but they still have yet to put out an album equal to the caliber of "Silent Alarm." Quality song writing seems to have been replaced with cheap studio tricks and annoyingly redundant themes that fared much better the first time around on "Weekend in the City." With the exception of "Biko" this album is not worth the $10... AT ALL.
  • Two stars, one for each song I'm not embarrased to say is by Bloc Party...

I'm not sure what happened between "Weekend in the City" and "Intamacy" but its nothing I hope to happen again, maybe they slipped into a Daft Punk concert and liked what they heard, or maybe they just felt a need to re-invent themselves, but this albumn is just a disaster. I bought this expecting some melolidous guitar with smooth vocals, like "Weekend in the City", but my favorite (I should say least favorite example) of how completly opposite they have gone would have to be Tojian Horse, just listen to the first 10 seconds and you will have heard nothing to be called music, only noise, which is what this albumn is, just noise! Whenever someone would ask me what my favorite band was, I would say, "Bloc Party" and then instantly inform them that its not some lame boyband techno group.... obviously I was saying this before this albumn came out and the irony should make me laugh but instead I'm just frustrated. As a last bit, I am fine with a band trying new things, in fact, I love to hear a new version of a band, such as, Radiohead's "In Rainbows" but the difference between that and "Intimacy, is that Radiohead created music while as I've previously said, Bloc Party simply made noise.
