  • Great songs...but all very simular

I heard John on a radio show and I really enjoyed his two songs. I replayed it and heard another neat slow, heart felt song. So I purchased the album. Bad news, almost all the songs are the same, slow meaningful songs. I would like to have had some change of pace songs on the album, yet, it didn't happen. Overall, I like John's words and melodies.

I can’t stop listening to either of John Fulbright’s two studio albums or his Live at the Blue Door. Why? They are the opposite of the cotton candy crap that you hear on the radio—songs with a sweet and tasty hook, but songs that aren’t the least bit fulfilling. These songs are different—rich, complex, nourishing. Many of them have very catchy hooks, but they all give you a lot of layers—thoughtful complexity that you can savor for a long time. I was privileged to hear him live at the Me and Thee Coffeehouse in Salem, MA, and all by himself, he captivated that room. Superb on the guitar. Superb on the harmonica. A very good whistler. And a great voice—it’s charmingly accessible so you can sing along, but when he stretches it out, you realize his voice is very strong too. Do yourself a favor—get both studio albums and Live at the Blue Door (the guitar on Tombstone is beautiful).

It gets no better than this. After you listen to this CD, you'll want to throw every other CD you've ever listened to in the trash. It's that good.

Saw John in concert, opening up for Patty Griffin 3 weeks ago. He stole the show and I haven't gone a day without listening to him since. His music is haunting and his voice is amazing. Can't wait to see how far he's going to soar.

Genius is not a term to be used lightly, but when the shoe fits. I can only imagine how big those shoes are going to get in the years to come.

I may be John Fullbrights biggest fan that has never seen one his shows. I listen to his music incessantly since his first album release - he is the real deal. Go Johnny go.
