This is a piece I made as a memorial to my mother, Diana Bierer Kirshner, in 1999. I had the idea of making four short videos, one for each season of the year, that would reflect a stage of my mother's life -- and of anyone's life. Like haiku. Fleeting, impermanent images of birth and death. The source material is family home movies, my own video footage, artifacts my mother left behind (notes, songs, x-rays, a crematorium tag, etc.) My son, who was born a year before my mother died, also makes a couple of appearances.
