Listening through Noise into Space, Time and Memory This paper will focus on listening to music, sound art and the acoustic environment through the concept as well as the experience of noise. Its interests are not the physiological facts but the sensorial possibilities and potential subjectivities that a listening to the intense invisibility of noise conjures up. Its starting point is Listening and Noise as it is developed in the book Listening to Noise and Silence: Towards a Philosophy of Sound Art, Continuum, NY 2010. The aim is not to regurgitate its offering however, but to expand through a focus on noise some of its ideas and deliberate some of its consequences for art practice and listening. In particular the invitation to Neuroarts presents an opportunity to talk about the political and social ramifications as well as the curatorial and disciplinary consequences that the extreme of noise allows us to hear.
