  • Flashing ads every few sentences -no thanks!

Flashing, moving ads every few sentences after paying for articles is far from worth the subscription $$$. I shouldn’t be pummeled with ads if I pay for the app…if I’d known that ahead of time, I never would’ve subscribed! The article layout of the app itself isn’t great either. When I choose my interests, it still includes headlines of things I’m not interested in, so I have to click on tabs to hunt articles down. The search isn’t exactly helpful either, there’s no obvious date when past articles were written, so you have to click on each individually in order to find out if it’s new or old. There’s no archive of games available, only the ones posted for that day —unless I want to login through a browser which defeats the point of the app. Did I mention it’s chock full of distracting ads amidst every last stinking article? Unsubscribed immediately.
  • Recent update took away scroll to top feature

Previous versions of the NYT app would let you return to the top of a given section by tapping that section’s title in the topmost nav bar. For instance, if you are at the bottom of Today, you could just hit Today to go right to the top, where the newest info could be found. Is this a bug? If it was a deliberate removal of functionality, you seriously need your head examined.

Wholly unavoidable complication the makers of the app just can't seem to figure out. Moving in and out of stories breaks the apps ability to insert you back into the scroll at the point where you left off. I've complained numerous times about this glitch, to be told to "reset" the app each time. Here's a novel idea: Why don't you fix the app? Beyond this, ultimately, minor annoyance, the app works great. But it gets old playing the guessing game every time I return to the scroll from a story...
  • From good to bad

Most apps improve after updates ; the NYT app deteriorates. The search article feature is frustrating- in the past one could rank articles by time - no longer. Sections are hard to locate. The app has become very user unfriendly
  • Numerous bugs obscure content

This is one of the buggiest interfaces I use. I’d have deleted it long ago but for the content that gets through now and then. The help provided for the problems I see is very much DIY, i.e. not actually help.
  • Slow

Compared to the FT or Al Jazeera, the NYT app is very slow to load news. Without good wifi it’s fairly useless
  • Obnoxious Ad Malware

Cannot get through article without accidently touching an ad while reading. App shuts down and the browser and some obnoxious ad takes over the screen. Cannot read an article from end to end without getting infected by malware - and having NYT ship your data off to some random pay per click malware provider. After closing browser annd finding app again - really difficult to get back to article. Really close to cancelling subscription....
  • Irritating bug in iPad app. Tapping an article headline often doesn't go to the article!

In The NY Times app on the iPad… When you tap in on an article's headline on the app's main page, it often doesn't go to the article! Instead, it jumps to another part of that page. This has been going for over a year. People have posted about it, criticized it in reviews, and, yet, itl persists. The latest update failed to fix it — again. Is this too much to ask for? Basic functionality? It seems so…

I’d like to pay someone to film the slaughter of a hundred of NY Times employees and collect my Polk Award win also.
  • No sections
