Although Sanborn's playing has evolved since the 1980s, this is one of his all-time classics, and serves as a great introduction to his music. This album was not marketed as "live," but certainly has all the energy you would expect from a live performance, but with the clarity of a studio recording. "Smile" is my personal favorite from this album, but there is not a weak track in the set.

Sanborn is the man. A cornucopia of groove, funk, and jazz. I saw this Straight to the Heart concert back in the day and the energy was through the roof. Hiram was running around the audience with that wireless guitar of his. I think he went out for a drink while he was still playin. That concert inspired me to get most of Sanborn's albums. Just try some of his music when you're with your lady. Believe me, it's magical. Cheers David! I've enjoyed your music for decades.

David Sanborn brings his alto saxophone to life with great energy and passion. Straight to the Heart, Lisa and my personal favorite Lotus Blossom really flow. The texture and sound of this cd is unmistakably Sanborn in top form, mixing live tracks with studio cuts. If you are a fan of contemporary jazz this cd should be in your collection.
