I've been a David Sanborn fan since the'80's and didn't know this album existed. I think he had two albums that year and I bought the other one, thinking that was it for the year, which was more "traditional"...That same year, the "Playboy Jazz Festival" which is usually held at the Hollywood bowl, decided to take it's show on the road and Denver was one of the stops....Fiddler's Green. I had second row Orchestra seats. The show encompassed Dianne Reeves, David Sanborn with Al Jarreau and George Duke headlining....During the Sanborn set, I was expecting some of his more familiar cuts. Instead he plyed songs from this album like "Snakes" and "crossfire" but, this Rocker type guitarist, in his band, in purple Doc Martin's kept trying to upstage Sanborn. Prompting me to stand up and yell "Who's band is it Dave...show him who's name is on the Marquee!!!". Needless to say he put on one Helluva show.

Mr. Sanborn always manages to show off his virtuosity, but this offering showcases the talents of a truly influential jazz saxophone virtuoso that will be read about, listened to and emulated for many, many years to come. The Man not only has chops that will not end, but he has the wherewithall to surround himself with musicians that groove to the max (aka Marcus Miller, Ricky Peterson, etc, etc). I was fortunate enough to have seen Mr. Sanborn perform recently at Jazz Alley (truly awesome venue) in Seattle a few months ago and the afterglow still lingers. What an awesome and consumate musician - truly a sax player's sax player.

This is one of the best Groove oriented Jazz albums of all time. Right up there with Herbie Hancock's work during the 70s etc. This won't disappoint if you're a fan of funky instrumentals. It simply doesn't get any better than this. Great production and a superb supporting cast.

I've owned this CD since about '98, and its still one of my favorite jazz albums. The album is a mixture of relaxing jams and upbeat melodic radio hits. Sanborn did this one right and it is arguably one of his best collections in my opinion. Snakes, Benny, and Bang Bang are my favorites. David Sanborn rivals Kenny G and other saxophonists of his time with his incredible solos, and catchy melodies backed by exciting rythyms. If you are a jazz fan you'll appreciate David's creativity and it's a must have album. If you are not a jazz fan, then you may not appreciate the jams as much as the radio destined tracks. Either way, this album is definately worth a look-see.

If you really like tapping your feet and feeling good , then this song is the catalyst . Turn this up on a quality stereo and you will be back for more . Whole album is very good but, Bang Bang is the platinum single of the album.
