  • Worshipful Christmas Music

There are few Christmas collections recorded by Mega-Stars that reach this level. So many "Stars" use Christmas music the same way they use any other music; To draw attention to themselves. This album inspires reverence and worship for the Savior of all mankind, not adulation of the singer. Even though these folks are not mainly known for their religious convictions, these Christmas songs are a tribute to the Son of God instead of a tribute to how great the singer is. Any devout Christian can place this album unashamedly alongside the greatest Christmas Music in history such as Handels Messiah or anything by The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Simply beautiful!
  • The Most Imitated...

Light of the Stable is probably the most influential Christmas album in Country Music. The above review (apparently the "official" Itunes review)says that Dolly, along with Anna & Kate McGarrigle, provide harmonies on The First Noel. This is incorrect. Dolly appears on the title cut., as does Neil Young and Linda Ronstadt. Many of the stellar, harmony vocals are provided by Sharon White Skaggs and Cheryl White (aka The Whites), along with Ricky Skaggs. This is a must for any Christmas Music Conisseur.

This is just a beautiful album. It is traditional country, bordering on roots music in places, so if you like only contemporary pop this might not be for you.

I can't stand country Christmas remakes. They are so annoying.
  • One of Emmylou's best -- and that says a lot.

Perhaps the best Christmas album I know. Wistful and heartfelt, the vocals are vintage Emmylou and the musicianship is extraordinary. There is just no better seasonal song than Light of the Stable.
