Great Early Lips

I am in the minority who actually prefer early Lips instead of The Soft Bulletin, Yoshimi, etc. This album is mind blowing! There a couple duds (Mountain Side, Rainin' Babies, God Walks Among Us Now), but the rest of the songs range from good to sheer perfection. We will start from the beginning. Shine on Sweet Jesus is a surpringly catchy song with a funny uber deep voice during the chorus. Things get loud when Unconsciously Screamin' comes on. Definitely one of the best on the album, really shows off the true talent of the early flips. FUN FACT: Wayne Coyne wrote, after making The Soft Bulletin, that Unconscioulsy Screamin' is one of the most F**ked with songs theyve made, meaning it is one of their songs that have undergone the most changes. Moving on, Take Meta Mars shows off their grunge side with great funky bass. Stand In Line, definitely one of the trippier ones on the album, sporting backwards sounds and loud horn crescendos. The last song, a cover of What a Wonderful World, has some of the greatest guitar work on any Lips album to date. Enough said. Two left. Five Stop Mother Superior Rain is the second best song on the album. Great lyrics, spectacular bass. It is one of those songs that just has an epic build up feel to it. Lastly, one of my favorite songs of all time, one that everyone should listen to, There You Are. First off, this song does an amazing job painting a picture and telling a story in your mind. A man is walking down a road at dawn after his car broke down while its raining and he is just done with everything. Life has completely screwed him over. Suddenly, he drops dead on the side of the road. Nothing happens. The world moves on without him. Cars drive past him (actually car sounds in the song). The end piece to this song is a very bittersweet piece of music on which a voiceover of the dead man talks about his life and how he has came to be where he is now. That's what I pictured when I listened to this song. Fantastic guitar, one of the most underrated songs ever.
