This is not really a review of this album in particular, but a tip for everyone: Flaming Lips EP's are the best hidden treasures. This is a great way to get new studio tracks and B-sides after you've listened to the albums. I have almost all of the flaming lips albums, and I just discovered all of their EP's. YES!! (P.S.-Listen to Sunship Balloons") You should buy these.

I will gladly agree with the others on their praise for the new songs of this EP. There really is no other way to describe the first three songs other than gorgeous. While most reviewers are disgusted with the remixes, I think they're extremely clever. I especially love the Do You Realize?? remix because The Flaming Lips took such a great risk at completely changing an already amazing song. It is different in that it is not the same mesmerizing piece, but it adds some spontaneity and spunk to this album which just adds to the ridiculous soul these men have. A must have for any Flaming Lips fan!
  • Incredible B-sides

The sun trilogy(the first three songs) and a change at christmas is all you need. Sunship balloons has to be my favorite flaming lips songs, it radiates happiness and fun. I think these four songs really prove how much heart The Flaming Lips have; moreover, it's great to see that this band can do anything they want musically, just incredible. The EP with the four b-sides is totally worth listening. The remixes are alright, I've heard better; but you should definitely check this one out.

This album really doesn't make any sence to me........ Here are my reasons why: 1.Its mostly awful remix's by random guys (Do You Realize?? was murdered in the awful remix on here) 2.There are only 4 new songs! 3.I don't think the Flaming Lips made most of this album, its 4 remix's! 4.Its way overpriced! We have to pay 8 dollars, and, whoopee! We get 3 crap remix's of Ege Tripping At The Gates Of Hell, all sounding the same! I reccomend you buy Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, skip this junk! (I'm giving it 4 stars for 4 good songs)

My understanding is that each of these tracks were recorded individually. They are not remixes. Whether or not you like so many versions of the same song is for you to decide. I happen to like them. If you already have "Yoshimi" then you probably don't need this EP. If you love the Flaming Lips then you will enjoy it.

Don't listen to what these clowns say about the remixes. They're too good to pass up... Ego Tripping (Bentley Remix) is a must-have. The new songs are fantastic too - a sweet surprise and worth the money. But if you're a nutter for the occasional remix, this really is a good EP to own.

This EP is worth the money for the new songs only. The remixes are basically all throwaways and can hardly stand next to the Lips' new efforts. And really, that's all that matters. The four new songs all have the wonderful qualities of the Lips' previous efforts, but they now seem to be pulling all of their experimentation together. "Assassination of the Sun" and "Sunship Balloons" in particular point toward a very bright future if they continue on this path, and "At War With the Mystics" is looking all the more exciting.
  • Four really good songs- Four really good stars

Forget the remixes, the new songs on Ego Tripping are absolutely great. "I'm A Fly in a Sunbeam" is yet another great Lips instrumental. "Sunship Balloons" is amazing, it could be a single, a good one at that! Steven takes up vocals yet again on "A Change at Christmas". The remixes aren't bad, just nothing special in my opinion. Did I mention "Sunship Balloons" is amazing?
