The good and the bad

There are some great songs on here and there are some crap songs. The great songs would be Stormbringer, the underrated Glenn Hughes sung Holy Man, High Ball Shooter and The Gypsy. The bad songs would be Love Don’t Mean a Thing, Hold On and the funky You Can’t Do It Right. Great cover! In some ways I like this album more than Burn. I think it has aged better than Burn. I’m still not too hot on Coverdale’s singing. I think he was much better with Whitesnake. Overall, a good album.

A Different Shade of Purple

Should we consider this album classic Deep Purple? No. Is it Classic Rock? Hell yes. This era of David Coverdale Purple finds the band experimenting with different styles, moods and tempos. There are some hits and misses as the bands explores new ground. But there’s some really good stuff. “Storm Bringer” rocks hard and heavy delivering a blistering Coverdale performance. Elsewhere on the musical spectrum you will enjoy the groove of “Love Don’t Mean a Thing” which dives bravely into R&B and Funk territory as do several tracks on this fine album. Take a chance on this Version of Deep Purple, it’s worth the ride.
Glorious times!!!
